Description

A striking stoneware tsubo jar by the late Kawai Takéichi.  The distinctive pattern is done in a technique called neriagé, where two clays of contrasting color are marbled to form intricate patterns within the claybody.

Kawai Takéichi was both nephew and student to the legendary mingei master Kawai Kanjirō and collaborated with him for over 40 years.  When he died in 1989, he left behind a modest cache of works which have never been available to the public - until now.  2000 Cranes is honored to have been given exclusive access to these very special pieces.
