Description
Before entering the world of ceramic making, Murata Tetsu studied the art of charcoal ink painting (called suibokuga) for several years under his father Konosuke I - a highly accomplished painter. Today, Murata Tetsu employs the same brush techniques to create his own distinctive style of sometsuké (cobalt glazed) porcelain wares.
This green tea cup set is a proud example of Murata's masterful brushwork. Around the rim, a panorama of mountainsides and seascapes is skillfully rendered and set upon geometric and floral patterns which have been painted on Kyo-yaki (Kyoto ware) since the Edo era.
