Kawa-kujira Green Tea Cup Set by Ikai Yūichi

Description

Ikai Yūichi's creative inspiration is derived from nature, and many of the glazing techniques in which he works have some reference to textures found in the natural world.

These green tea cups are done in a glaze called kawa-kujira.  While cooling in the kiln, the glaze shrinks disproportionately faster around the clay body, forming beads and bumps.  The effect is said to resemble the texture of whale (kujira) skin.

It promises to become a green tea-loving couple's treasure.

A wooden presentation box will be custom made to order and signed by the artist.  Delivery time for this item is 2 weeks.
