Description
This striking iron-glazed green tea cup by Wada Hiroaki was fired at Ōizumi-gama - the Wada family's wood-burning noborigama climbing kiln. At 1,250°C (2,300°F) degrees, it was blasted with wave after wave of intense heat and ash, each one adding subtle tonal variations to the glaze. When plucked from the kiln while molten-hot, the iron content (tetsu-yū) quickly oxidizes, forming an obsidian landscape permanently marked by the dynamics inside Ōizumi-gama.
It is sure to become a green tea lover's most treasured cup.
