Description
Much of Suzuki Tomio's inspiration is drawn from both Western and Japanese classical literature, mythology and poetry - works which he says serve as his sensei, or teacher.
This green tea cup is done in Suzuki's signature kokuyōsai - a glaze inspired by Dante's Inferno. The name means "shimmering black" in Japanese and, apart from shino, is the only other genre in which the artist works. On a new creative tangent, he has stylized red and white feldspar drip details over the base glaze of manganese. A piece that is sure to become a green tea lover's treasure.
For hot or cold green tea or iced tea.
Suzuki Tomio's shino pottery is held in private collections around the world and, in 2011, was acquired by the Philadelphia Museum of Art for display in their East Asian Art collection.
