Description
Ceramic artist Kamada Kōji has elevated tenmoku, a glaze originating in China, to an even higher level of refinement with his works filled with energy and radiant light. This saké flask is done in yōhen yuteki tenmoku. While cooling in the kiln, streams of wood ash fan out to reveal the shiny layer of iron oxide beneath - like the veins of a moth's wing glimmering in the sunlight. Skillfully handcrafted in a teardrop shape, it makes the unique addition to any saké ware collection.
Kamada Kōji's tenmoku works are held in private collections around the world and, in 2005, were acquired by New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art for display in their Asian Art collection.
