Description
This ash glazed (haiyū) tea ceremony bowl by Wada Hiroaki was wood-fired at Ōizumi-gama - the Wada family's noborigama climbing kiln. Inside the kiln at a temperature of 1,250°C (2,300°F) degrees, it was blasted with wave after wave of red pine and cedar embers - some vitrifying inside the tea pool. Temperature changes and the reaction between the glaze and clay create the distinctive yōhen gradation which ranges from pink to grey. Imbued with sense of Zen simplicity, this chawan makes a lovely addition to any tea ceremony vessel collection.
