Description

Wada Hiroaki is the fourth generation of ceramic artists at Kotoura Kiln.  He has trained for years under his father, Wada Tōzan, learning how to shift his creative energy between the precise and sophisticated world of Kyoto porcelain and the raw, unrefined world of wood-fired pottery.  Like his mentor, he has proven himself equally adept at both.

This captivating tea ceremony bowl was fired at Ōizumi-gama - the Wada family's noborigama climbing kiln.  It is done in an ash glaze (haiyū) which came from the kiln uniformly crackled and enrobed with a texture that will delight anyone who holds it.  It was formed in an irregular, oval shape which allows the bowl to fit inside cupped hands when receiving tea.
