Description
Shino is just one of the many ceramic genres in which Sawada Hiroyuki specializes. Its most distinctive feature is the small pinholes in the glaze called yuzu-hada, or citrus skin, which the tea masters of old favored.
This elegant cup is a nod to shino's classical past. It holds an image of a heron in the reeds rendered in iron-oxide brushwork. The incised vertical lines are formed in a technique, called shinogi, that coaxes the citrus skin texture from the feldspar glaze.
Because this type of shino is mostly bone white with flashes of orange, it beautifully presents the color and clarity of green tea.
A wooden presentation box will be custom made to order and signed by the artist. Delivery time for this item is 2 weeks.
